Category: Doctors of the Church

A Doctor of the Church is a title given by the Catholic Church to saints whose writings or preachings are of significant importance for the doctrine, theology, and spiritual life of the Church. These individuals are recognized for their eminent learning and orthodoxy of doctrine, as well as their sanctity. The title is conferred posthumously and indicates that their teachings are reliable and beneficial for all members of the Church. Some well-known Doctors of the Church include St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Teresa of Ávila, and St. John of the Cross. There are currently 37 Doctors of the Church, and their contributions continue to influence Catholic theology and practice.
